Beyond the ordinary

This is where our journey begins. I'm glad you're here to be a part of my story.

My Story

Who is Shelley Hancock:

I am Shelley, I started creating Southwest floral arrangements about 10 years ago after visiting my sister in Arizona, where cacti are everywhere. The Spring blossoms are so beautiful. My sister, mom and I loved to go to the swap meet there. I met a woman who showed me how to make some of her designs.  I learned so much.  The one thing that stands out is, how in love I was with floral arranging. I  came home and started a hobby that has now developed into a business. Shelleys Silk Creations LLC was born.

Once I decided that people were willing to pay her for her talents things really started to take off.  I set up a booth at the Quilted Bear in Ogden, UT. While it was a lot of fun and kept me busy the cost of rent was eating up all the profit.  Several years later I decided to give it up. Times were hard, Then one day her niece asked if she could help her with her wedding flowers. I was so honored.   it turned out that she was using real flowers, all shipped to her in buckets of water.  I had not worked with real flowers, so I found it challenging, for the reason that the stems of the flowers do not bend.  I managed ok and personally thought they turned out beautiful.  I still prefer the faux kind, and they are much easier to work with, and how REAL they look.  After that I knew I wanted to get back into all again.

I started SSC in the basement of our home. Now I am a wreath making, do it yourself decorator.

I have been training with the queen of wreath making Julie from Southern Charm Wreaths. On online teacher and educator of all thing's florals and ribbon.  I have developed my own style by trying to stay up to date on trends, products, techniques and now selling online and participating in a few local craft fairs.

I would like to branch into teaching others that have the same passion as I do.

I am a Westerner, loves and lives in Utah.  I have a beautiful family including 4 of the cutest grandkids.  I am looking forward to retirement making a living with a dream as a wreath and Floral arranger, always excited to see what comes next.
